Godzilla (1998) Information

Godzilla was initially projected to take in $90,000,000 in domestic sales during its opening weekend, to surpass the record set the year before by The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Actual opening weekend sales were a respectable $44,000,000, but clearly did not track with studio profit forecasts. Godzilla broke even in the U.S. market, taking in $136,314,294 at the domestic box office and $242,700,000 overseas ultimately making the movie profitable, bringing the worldwide total to $379,014,294.[4]

The movie's reviews were mostly negative from both fans and critics alike. It holds a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The mayor of New York City is named Ebert, and his top adviser is named Gene, a reference to the famous film critiquing duo from TV's Siskel & Ebert. Both bear a strong physical resemblance to the real-life critics. It was an attempt at expressing displeasure at the negative reviews Siskel and Ebert had given the producers' previous films. Although Roger Ebert was flattered at the parody, he gave Godzilla a bad review anyway. Gene Siskel, however, found the parody "petty", also giving the film a negative review.

At the 1998 Golden Raspberry Awards, the film was nominated for five Razzies, including Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. It took home two overall for Maria Pitillo as Worst Supporting Actress and for the film as Worst Remake or Sequel.

Godzilla vs King Kong

Throughout the years Godzilla and King Kong have been cultural icons in the film industry. Godzilla a Japanese product with over twenty movies and numerous spin offs has become a household name. King Kong has long been known to the American movie fan going all
the way back even to Mighty Joe Young when fans were watching giant apes on the big screen. This movie brought both beasts and their collective markets together to settle a dispute for the fans or so it was thought the dispute would be settled anyways.

The movie centers around the return of Godzilla to Japan and a struggling Japanese company that finds King Kong and plans on using him as a marketing tool. It becomes clear early in the movie that they are gonna cross paths as Godzilla is basically unstoppable and they cannot contain Kong. You see both monsters flex their muscle within the first thirty minutes as Godzilla wrecks havoc on the military while King Kong dispatches a giant octopus to save a small village.

A look at Godzilla 1985

In the early 1980s the world had seen Godzilla grow from the original film in the 1950s where he was an unstoppable menace to a laughable hero in the 1970s. When the world was treated to Godzilla 1985 the film once again established the giant creature as a fearsome destructive force.
while the film was bashed by critics it remains one of the most popular to true fans.

The movie starts off giving us only a glimpse of Godzilla as he attacks a large fishing boat and a Russian nuclear submarine. The attack of the submarine gets the whole world into a panic as the Russians blame the Americans and threaten to start a nuclear war because after all it is 1985. It is only when one of the sailors from the fishing vessel is found alive that it is revealed that Godzilla was in fact to blame for the attack.
